The movement is stamped F Kroeber New York, pat. June 26 & October 6, 1874. The movement is a bit unusual in that the strike count wheel is attached directly to the strike side main wheel. The clock has a Jacot's Regulator dial adjustment pendulum bob.

Kroeber was born in Hoboken, New Jersey, to parents of German Protestant origin.His mother Johanna Muller was an American of German descent; his father Florence Kroeber came to the United States from Germany at the age of ten, with his parents and family, and became an importer of French clocks.
